Let me preface this story just a little bit. Before May 24th of this year, I hadn't been pulled over and ticketed since summer of 1999. So on May 24th, while driving my truck, I got pulled over on the way to Indy Motor Speedway. Since that time I had gotten pulled over 3 more times! All of which were just bad luck pull overs. I just happened to had been speeding on a certain stretch of road, or I was running late one day and tried to beat a light ... you know, that old song and dance. ANYWAYS. Some of you know I've recently become a stage III Z, and with that, I had put in my new JWT street clutch. I was still in my 500 mile "break in" period last night. However, I had hit 475 miles and thought to myself, why not, lets see if the clutch is worth the money I had paid. So I was first at this light and there wasn't too much traffic so I decided this would be the light. Mind you, I had been taking it easy on the Z every where I went while I was in the break in period. No street racing, no strong pulls, just cruising easy. Light turns green and I walk it out in first, shift into second and just cram the throttle to the floor. Go through 2nd into 3rd, hard shift, hit full boost again and backed off a little more than 60 mph. I started breaking immediatly because I didn't want any more attention than necissary. Little did I know, it was way too late for that. I pull up to the next light feeling good about the new clutch and tires. Light turns green and I just pull out nice and easy and I look into my review mirror and I'll be damned if there isn't a cop with his lights on behind me. GDI!! WTF?? Are they following me around or something? Waiting for me to do something wrong or what!? I pull over out of the way and do the usual, get the license ready, turn on the dome light, put my hands at 10 and 2 and wait patiently. He comes up and asks for my license and before he can utter the phrase, 'Do you know why I pulled you over?' I had already begun to plead my story. I know why you pulled me over, let me explain just a little. I just got this clutch put in my car and my break in period is 500 miles. I'm right now at (*looking at my trip odometer*) 474 miles on this clutch. There was nobody in front of so I wanted to open the car up real quick just to be sure that the clutch was working as intended. If you were watching me the whole time, you saw that I had started breaking as soon as I had hit 60. Obviously I had no intention of speeding through the streets. You had just caught me at the right place at the right time when I was testing the car. This is not my normal driving. I'm really sorry, and I'll have to rely on your understanding and sympathy on this one. I'm being 100% completely honest with you. So he looks at my license and says, I'm going to go run your license and then decide what I'm going to do. Five minutes go by and he comes back and hands my license and says, "Everything checked out ok, I'll buy your story and let you slide on this one." He continued to say, "slow it down next time. I have a corvette and I know it can be hard sometimes, but the way you took off (HA, *HUG* stage III Z =) ), I had to pull you over." I undestand officer, thank you thank you! I wipe the sweat off my brow and drive off. Only to have an Eclipse fuck with me on the way home. I thought it best I just ignore him and not push my luck any more that night. Very cool cop. :)
